Family Photo Session at Croghan Island Mill

This is a good example of a family photo session that we just love to do. Many thanks to the Martins for allowing us to use their beautiful property at the Croghan Island Mill on this glorious summer day last year!  With my Dad’s help we were here for three days of photo sessions for the 100 year celebration edition of the Croghan Mennonite Church directory. The directory is a real keepsake if you have not seen it. Great job Ginny Moser and team at the church!  We offered the church members the option of directory photos outdoors to take advantage of not only the setting but natural light or at the church in the more traditional poses. Here at the Mill we had the opportunity for many photos both candid and in more formal poses. I think you will agree that Loren and Barb’s family proved to be very photogenic at this extraordinary site in perfect weather conditions.

Little did I know that he had already asked my father for his blessing to propose to me. Jared is from  Croghan and  is employed full time by the Watertown City Fire Department but still finds time to be quite active as a Croghan volunteer firefighter, EMT, hazmat technician and member of the Lewis County Sheriff’s dive and rescue team.

A few weeks later with the wedding plans well underway, I asked my father if he would conduct a photo session with us as we were thinking of preparing of cards to be mailed for our “Save The Date” announcement to friends and family out of the area. If you are not familiar with my background in photography as outlined on my website (see My Blogroll above for link) my Dad was the first to introduce me to cameras. He now is my second camera for weddings and helps me with the technology and back-office.

I was at my parents home in Camillus, New York for the weekend recently and we went to Nine Mile Creek nearby for the photo session. We even caught a break in the winter weather. For those of you who don’t know Nine Mile Creek, it is known for its great fly fishing. There you can catch in season both wild brown and wild brook trout. See the link in my Blogroll above for Nine Mile Fly Fishing.  It includes maps and great information about the creek itself.   You will see two other links in my Blogroll about the area one for the nearby Nine Mile Creek Aqueduct and the other for the Martisco Train Station Museum. You will see several photos from this area during this photo session including one of my sister thinking she is like Taylor Swift with the guitar from my first blog last year archived below in March of 2011.

Our wedding will be later this summer on August 4th at Naumburg church  near to Croghan with a reception to follow at the Tug Hill Vineyard. Our pastor Bryan Catlin from Salem Christian Fellowship Church will be performing the service.

I hope you enjoy the photos.

Family Fun at Historic Thompson Park in Watertown

It was a bright late summer sunny afternoon when Chet, Gloria their kids and I headed off to beautiful Historic Thompson Park in Watertown for a family photo session. I had been scrapbooking with Gloria and through our relationship I had the pleasure of meeting the rest of the family.  I  love scrapbooking by the way as it fills my passion to be artistic ! We had fun in the park not only with family photos but individual portraits. There was plenty to occupy the kids time when they were not on camera so to speak. Thompson Park is where the zoo is located as well, although we did not visit the zoo this day. See links in my Blogroll above to both the historic park and the zoo.

What I also enjoyed about this photo session was the ability to catch some of the kids in fun poses while they were just playing and interacting with each other rather than the more traditional poses.

After the photo session we enjoyed pizza and soda together in the park.

Welcome to my blog. I am excited about sharing with you my journey in digital photography. With my blog I hope to introduce some new ideas for you to consider in your future photo sessions through recent photo shoots that I will be posting. I will also be sharing with you fun experiences hopefully to brighten your day, honor those in our community and pass on some information of interest along the way. Along the way you will get to know a little about me. I look forward to adding content here that will make your loving memories through digital photography that much more pleasing to you, your family and friends.

This particular photo shoot is very special to me. This is my sister Cassie. She is just learning to play the guitar teaching herself a few cords and is actually beginning to  use Garageband on Apple’s IPAD as part of her home education.  I think the setting here is quite beautiful. I took these pictures at the Martisco Train Station Museum near Camillus, New York where I grew up with my parents and two sisters. My family is special to me and I hope to feature them from time to time. We are close and God has blessed me with a wonderful family.  I have added a link above in my Blogroll to the museum website. The station still sees some activity today although on a much reduced basis. The creek flowing  in the photographs is Nine Mile Creek which runs north from Otisco Lake (one of the five Finger Lakes) through Marcellus, Camillus and emptying into Onondaga Lake with outlets north into Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway.

One other interesting fact about Nine Mile Creek is that it has the only restored navigable (working) aqueduct in New York State. The aqueduct is actually in the Camillus Erie Canal Park. I have attached another link above in my Blogroll for you to refresh yourself on the aqueduct.
